I attended another workshop at Green's Books this one on Japanese stab-bindings hosted by Green's Books and given by Mylyn McColl. Mylyn has been a bookbinder for over a decade and she taught my City & Guilds 118 Beginners Course and I will be seeing her again tomorrow as I do my fourth Shepherd's London City & Guilds Design & Sampling. That will complete all my Level One courses. If you are in the UK and see a workshop being taught by Mylyn I would recommend taking it. Mylyn is not only and experienced bookbinder but a very good teacher. She is very patient and can handle multiple student of different skill levels at the same time.
Just like when I tried the Long Stitch during my City and Guilds 221 Non Adhesive Binds I found the sewing slightly confusing to start with but soon got into the swing of things. I'm thinking of combining the Japanese stab-binding with the photo albums I did during the C&G 119, I think the style with the compensation guards would look really good with the Japanese stab-binding.
I enjoyed the experience enough where I went and ordered a few books on the subject and some embroidery thread as my daughters seem to have nicked all of mine. It was good to be at Green's Books and to see Arthur again. I will see him again next week for "Leather paring without the blood, sweat and tears" as I want to get some foundation knowledge on leather working. I highly recommend his workshops as Arthur is very knowledgeable on the subject matter as well as the practical aspects.
