Long Stitch Binding
We started out with a long stitch on a card cover for practice. I bought some metal squares from the instructor, these will come in handy on future projects.
First I make a template
Line the spine as heavy card on its own is not strong enough to support the sewing without tearing.
I'll need to be more patient when placing my holes for stitching. Next template is with a leather cover. I find sewing a long stitch frustrating as I'm not used to the cover getting in the way.
Time for a break and play with Sev for a couple of minutes.
I found what appears to be sun bleached decorative paper. I thought it looked great with the laminate leather.
I accidentally pierced the leather outside the whole and didn't notice until it was too late to really go back and fix it.
A restaurant next door had wooden buttons for sale. I figured I could use some of the leather off cut when I squared the leather off to make a tie off.
Getting ready to laminate the next bit of leather for another long stitch.
Sev is wondering when I will stop mucking about and get back to playing with him.
About midday I was getting a bit overwhelmed with two weeks of bookbinding classes. However a nice break and discovering the wooden buttons soon perked me up. Tomorrow I will make an A5 long stitch, but slightly different.
