It has been a busy couple of days trying to get everything organised in my workshop. The slotted shelving and the pegboards are up. Drilling into cinder blocks is difficult as it is already pitted and the drill wants to go into the hollows, not necessarily where you actually need to drill the hole.

Who puts carpet in a garage? |

The dust stored in that carpet was toxic |

Rubber matting on the floor |

Yuk! What a mess. Old cupboards and makeshift shelving |

I have a plan to change my workspace! |
The original plan, made in Sketchup, had to be changed due to the pegboards I wanted became out of stock and they had no idea when they would be in stock again. So I purchased a different brand and more slotted shelving. The original plan was to put slotted shelving bars between the pegboards. Unfortunately the pointing around the cinder blocks got in the way so I occasionally had to move things over by a few centimeters.
The college where I work just bought new beds with frames and they were throwing out the old wood frames from the old beds. Perfect timing for me! Although they are a couple centimeters short of the width I wanted they still work just fine.
I have many hobbies other than bookbinding so I have to split my work area. I'm still trying to figure out where to place everything but if you look at those first pictures there is a HUGE difference. Most of all I have more counter space without those rubbish old shelves in the way. I have a clean workbench for working with paper. That workbench is what I call a 'Dry Place' as I don't place any liquids, paints, or use adhesives in that area.
Well that is my break over. I need to get back to placing everything in the area and get myself organised. Then I will have to get a few family members together to help me lift and move the nipping press into its final resting place. I'm looking forward to being completely finished as I've not done any bookbinding in months!
Awesome. I am so jealous! All my hobby space is currently in a corner of the living room.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a year in the making. It isn't perfect. In the summer you can only use the space early in the morning and late in the evening. In the winter I will have a portable heater in there but it takes hours to warm up. Also I rent so it isn't permanent but I will enjoy it why I can! I have lots of dusting, sweeping, and hoovering to do yet!
