City and Guilds 221 day 2

What an amazing day! I enjoy sewing books, I find it very relaxing. Today I sewed my first Coptic bind using four needles. I enjoyed the process although the finishing up on the second cover is a bit difficult.

Now they really meant Non-Adhesive.  The covers are folded in and no adhesive used. I cut two by height and two by width making sure the grain directions where matching to the boards. I decided to have the blue design on the outside of the front cover and the orange on the outside of the back cover.

Slightly trim the tuck in so it slides in easy and tightly

The I pierce through the covers at the holes in the book board.

Time to get the thread and needles ready making sure not to stick Sev who was sleeping under my desk.

All four needles ready to go.

It took me awhile to sew it up making sure all the tension was right.

I'm really pleased with the results!

Next project is learning a Crossed Structure Binding.

8 signatures of four. So I need to cut down more paper.

After all the signatures are folded I need to make a template for the interlinked  structure with the one with three 'fingers' being the sewing station.

Now to mark up the puncture cradle.

Giving plenty of space in the back of the structure tape down the template to your chosen card.

I had to make that reminder as I was talking away and cut the back of the template on my first attempt! What a waste of materials.

Time to cut the second template (notice the little reminder).

All done for the day. I will sew it up tomorrow!

Very pleased with my progress today despite a few mistakes. I am looking forward to tomorrow's challenges!
