Sewn Board Binding

I thought this tutorial by 'lowmountain' looked like fun so I thought I'd give it a go.

Unfortunately I was enjoying the entire process so much that I forgot to take a lot of pictures during the process.

The bookblock was sewn just like the one above but instead of using coloured card for the endpapers I used very heavy card that I took from old hanging folders they were throwing out at work.

Now my wife works for the Beacons of the Past project which is a project to discover more about Iron Age hill forts in the Chilterns. They launched their big project today so I thought I would make this Sewn Board A6 notebook for her.  News Article about the project here.  If you want to get involved by looking at the LiDAR data you can do that HERE

I like the fact that it can open flat.

The 'marbled paper' is just printed on photo paper. I found this very fun and enjoyable to make. I don't know how well it will hold up compared to my traditional cased in books but time will tell.

Here is a YouTube tutorial from Peter Baumgartner for doing Sewn Board Binding.
